How They Affect Your Pet and You

Here at Good Life, we offer humane products to stop dogs from barking. None of our products hurt or damage a dog in any way. With that being said, customers understandably get concerned as to the effect our devices have on their dog, other animals in the home, and people. Will it hurt them? Will people hear it? The answer is a big “no”. But, let's dig a little deeper so you can understand why we have so much confidence in that answer.

Time for a science lesson on the magic of sound waves. Sound waves   are, quite literally, waves. The longer the space between the crests of the waves, the deeper the sound. On the flip side, the shorter the space between crests, the higher-pitched the noise. The difference in a deep baritone and a high alto is that space between crests, and we call these differing wave lengths frequencies. Another word to know is decibel. Decibel level is the measure of loudness, and has nothing to do with frequencies.

So now that we know all sound looks the same – and different pitch really is just differing wave lengths – let's talk about its effects in our homes and with animals. First thing we must stress is that ultrasonic noise is not painful, but annoying. We keep the decibel level low enough not to harm the dog.

So why does it bother dogs and not us or other pets?

All animals, including humans, hear at very different frequencies  . There is some overlap (a dog can hear us talking, just like we can hear us talking) but we cannot pick up the high frequency sound that the dog can. This is true for the entire animal kingdom. We all hear at different frequencies and though there is some overlap, all our bark-control products have been specifically set to have the most effect on a dog and the least effect on other animals.
