Ginger-Pup Cookies

Christmas is a time for family, friends, giving, and cheer! It’s also a time for food, drinks and of course, desserts!! Here is a recipe for your furriest of friends, so that they can join in on the holiday fun.

  • 1 Cup molasses
  • 4 Tablespoons honey
  • 1 Cup water
  • ½ Cup vegetable oil
  • 6 Cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 Teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 Teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 Teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 Teaspoon of dried ginger powder
  • (Optional) Yogurt Chips

  1. Combine molasses, honey, water, and oil into one bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger.
  3. Slowly combine the wet ingredients with dry ingredients and blend well.
  4. Divide dough into 4 balls and then wrap with plastic wrap.
  5. Put the balls of dough in the fridge for 3–5 hours. You want the dough cold, you can freeze for 1–2 hours (just don’t let it get solid!).
  6. Preheat oven to 350° F when you are ready to make the Ginger-Pup cookies.
  7. After the dough is cold, sprinkle counter with flour and roll out dough to about ¼″ thick.
  8. Cut into cute, fun Christmas and holiday shapes, like trees, cats (for the dog of course!), gingerbread people, reindeer…etc.
  9. Bake for 20–25 minutes.
  10. (Optional) Frost them by using melted yogurt chips as the frosting.

You can store your cookies in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks at room temperature, or freeze them for longer storage life.

It is important to consult your veterinarian if your dog is sensitive to certain foods or if they have any allergies.

We hope you and your pup enjoy this recipe! Happy holidays!
